Robert Knoth Robert Knoth was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in 1963. After one year studying at the Art Academy in Utrecht, he worked as a rock photographer from 1990 to 1994 but then decided to go to Somalia to do a story on the civil war. Subsequently, he has worked widely abroad doing stories in Afghanistan, Sudan, Kosovo, Croatia, Angola, the USA, Burkina Faso, Thailand, Israel, Kazakhstan, Russia, Hungary, Spain and Kenya, as well as several trips to Somalisished. He has been published.regularly in Holland in De Volkskrant, Nieuwe Revu and Metro and has had publications in France, Germany, Belgium and the UK. He won several awards between 1995 and 1999 at the 'Zilveren Camera', the annual contest for photojournalist in Holland, with stories on Burkina Faso, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan and Angola. He was awarded 2nd prize in the category 'People in the News' in the World Press Photo Contest 1999 on Angola. In 1993, Knoth published a book which presented portraits on three generation of Dutch rock-stars from the early 50's till the beginning of the1990's. This has been nominated for the 'Kees Scheerer-prijs', a prize for best Dutch photography book of the year. |
