Seamus Murphy/Saba

Seamus Murphy attended a course in Media Studies in Dublin before becoming an assistant to a cinematographer in London. He quickly tired of the film world and started working as a freelance photographer while living in the USA.

His first major story was about children in derived areas of Dublin who won ponies, which was published in the Independent newspaper in the UK. In 1998, he joined Saba Agency in New Yor, but is currently based in London where he does assignments for Expressen Newspaper in Sweden.

In 1999, Murphy won a World Press Photo prize for his portraits of old IRA soldiers in Ireland and in 2000 he won a Word Press Photo prize for his story 'Sierra Leone Olympic Hopefuls in Training'.
